EDON Place delivers a range of support services through Children’s Counselling, Parent Education sessions and Therapeutic programming.  

Programs are consistently delivered throughout the year.

Court Based Services

EDON Place offers assistance and support in Bundaberg, Childers and Gayndah Magistrates Courts. We understand that going to court can be stressful and a difficult experience.

Our Practitioners can provide support and information:

  1. Domestic and Family Violence Legislation
  2. Information about Court procedures;
  3. Assistance to apply for a new order or to vary or revoke the conditions on an existing order;
  4. Preparation – court meeting and orientation;
  5. Provide a safe waiting room and in courtroom support;
  6. Post court debriefing and information;
  7. Safety planning;
  8. Referral to other agencies.

Home Security Safety Upgrades

Home Security Safety Upgrades assists women affected by domestic and family violence to remain safely in their own homes. Our staff will conduct a comprehensive risk assessment and safety plan that is suited to the clients current circumstance, EDON Place will facilitate upgrades to the security of client’s home. Case management is a component of this program, safety modifications are completed by certified tradespeople. The program enhances safety of clients who identify as the aggrieved person on a current domestic violence order that includes an ouster and/or do not enter or remain conditions. This program operates in conjunction with all other services that are currently provided by EDON Place Domestic and Family Violence Centre.

 

Mobile Support Services

EDON Place offers a mobile support service to women escaping domestic and family violence.

 

Service Systems – Community Education

EDON Place undertakes a range of community education activities each year to raise awareness of domestic and family violence in our community. Our Service is active in speaking to children in schools about healthy relationships, speaking with allied professionals about the services we offer and providing specialised support for working with issues of domestic and family violence. EDON Place regularly facilitates an educational domestic and family violence awareness program. EDON Place is a lead agency in this catchment area for activities during Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month, held in May each year.

  1. Providing domestic violence information and resources to community organisations.
  2. Participating in interagency networks, DVCAN, Child Protection Week activities and Love Bites program.
  3. Providing domestic violence information to local schools.
  4. Developing and disseminating a range of resources about domestic violence and dating violence.
  5. Information sessions, forums and workshops.

We partake in a variety of activities each year as part of the following events:

  1. International Women’s Day celebrations;
  2. Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month Activities;
  3. 16 Days of Activism to Stop Violence Against Women.
  4. Ochre Day
 

Temporary Supported Accommodation – Support for Women and Children

EDON Place offers short- term crisis accommodation for women and their children who are escaping domestic and family violence. Families that enter Temporary Supported Accommodation are case managed to achieve their immediate and long-term goals. This can include crisis counselling face to face or by phone, assistance to complete applications for domestic and family violence protection orders, assistance to secure long-term safe and affordable accommodation, regular safety planning reviewing and other identified support.

Women’s Counselling and Support Services 

EDON Place provides individual face to face therapeutic counselling for women experiencing, or who have experienced, domestic and family violence in the Bundaberg region. A suitably qualified worker will provide assessment, intervention, and case conceptualization to assist women to develop strategies that will increase their safety and well-being. Women can be referred through police referral, self-referral, and referrals from external organisations.

 

Perpetrator Intervention Program – Responsible and Respectful Choices – Men’s Program, Men’s Court Support and Counselling

EDON Place understand’s the importance the Perpetrator Intervention Program and supporting families experiencing or who have experienced DFV. We seek to address the abusive behaviour of individuals who perpetrate domestic and family violence and provide them with opportunities to change. The program is designed to assist each man participating in the program to stop using violence and abuse in their relationships by providing opportunities to:

  1. learn new skills to manage difficult situations
  2. understand your patterns of behaviours and triggers
  3. keeping your family safe
  4. enhance your communication style
  5. creating healthier relationships
  6. become a safe role model for children

The program is available to men aged over the age of 17 years who have used domestic and family violence in their intimate relationships. This group includes men that have been directed to the service through the justice system, including courts and Queensland Corrective Services. EDON Place aim to assist men to address their own use of domestic and family violence and other destructive patterns in their personal lives and relationships.

The program prioritises women’s and children’s safety and has incorporated safety as the foundation of the program, where we provide women’s advocacy to participant’s partners or ex-partners throughout the program and post program.

We provide assistance and support in Bundaberg Magistrates Court for men. We understand that going to court can be stressful and a difficult experience.

North Burnett Services

EDON Place offer support to women in the North Burnett who are experiencing domestic and family violence.

Services include:

  1. Support with safety planning and risk assessments
  2. Support with Domestic and Family Violence Protection Orders (DVO’s)
  3. Assistance with referrals to local organisations

North Burnett Services include: Monto, Gayndah & Eidsvold Region

 

Women’s Health and Wellbeing Support Services

EDON Place provide trauma informed counselling and case management support to meet the ongoing needs of women and young women who require assistance to achieve better health and wellbeing. This includes intake and needs assessment (including ongoing safety and risk assessment) and case planning for meeting the women’s and young women’s support needs.
Women’s Health and Wellbeing Support Services prioritise women who are recovering from experiences of domestic and family violence and other forms of gender-based violence.
EDON Place assist women and young women to achieve social and economic independence by supporting them to access a range of support services to meet their long terms needs and to support their ongoing journey from crisis to recovery.

Safe Horizons- Women’s Group Program

The aim of the groups is to assist women to address the impact of domestic and family violence and to:

  1. Provide a supportive and safe environment for women to share their experiences.
  2. Provide opportunities for women to gain strength and understanding through shared experiences.
  3. Meet other women and help break down social isolation associated with living with domestic violence.
  4. Provide education and information about domestic and family violence.
